The Standard Scenarios provide a set of forward looking projections for the U.S. electric power sector to 2050, reflecting varying assumptions about technology costs, fuel prices, policies, and demand growth. NREL updates these scenarios annually; the 2024 edition includes 61 scenarios using the latest cost and performance data. The Scenario Viewer and Data Downloader allow users to explore generation mix, capacity additions, emissions, and regional differences across scenarios and download time series data. Stakeholders' including policymakers, researchers, and utilities use the tool to assess potential pathways for decarbonization, gauge the impacts of policy or market trends, and benchmark against other modeling studies.
