About the Library

The Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership (C-MAP) supports remote communities and Tribes in designing, developing, repairing, and improving microgrid systems. By providing funding and technical assistance, C-MAP helps enhance electricity reliability and security—especially in areas at the edge of the central grid or entirely off-grid—by deploying strategic microgrid operations, controls, and energy technologies

Through C-MAP, the Community Microgrid Innovation Exchange (C-MIX) brings together individuals and organizations to share knowledge, resources, and models. Microgrids are an increasingly common way to improve energy access and reliability, particularly in remote areas facing frequent outages and unstable energy prices. However, every microgrid is tailored to local conditions and needs, so planning and developing a project can be complex.

The resources in the C-MIX library facilitate knowledge transfer between communities that have faced similar challenges or conditions and helps researchers and developers advance proven solutions.

Users of the C-MIX library may include:

  • System operators seeking to improve the performance of existing microgrids
  • Researchers addressing technical challenges such as advanced controllers and interoperability
  • Local government leaders interested in microgrid solutions that lower or stabilize energy costs
  • Energy providers seeking templates for funding proposals
  • Industry partners evaluating technologies, market trends, and deployment opportunities
  • Organizations and communities building capacity through training and technical skill development
  • Community members curious about microgrid case studies.

Who Leads the C-MIX

While microgrid development is inherently a local process, the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) supports critical power grid system research and implementation that advances affordable, reliable, and secure energy for all Americans. The C-MIX is funded through the DOE Office of Electricity's Community Microgrid Assistance Partnership program and is managed by the National Lab of the Rockies(NLR).
