Micro Nuclear Reactors: Potential Replacements for Diesel Gensets within Micro Energy Grid
Peer-reviewed study evaluating microreactors as replacements for diesel generation within a campus-scale micro energy grid. Using optimization and case data from Ontario Tech University, scenarios compare microreactor-anchored portfolios against diesel and renewable mixes on cost, emissions, and reliability. Results show potential CO2 reductions and acceptable service quality under selected assumptions, with sensitivity analyses on capital cost, fuel price, load profiles, and storage. The article outlines technical constraints, operational considerations, and research needs for practical deployment.
