Global Wind Atlas
Developed by the Technical University of Denmark and the World Bank, the Global Wind Atlas offers freely accessible maps of wind resource potential worldwide. Using mesoscale modeling and microscale downscaling, the atlas provides data layers showing mean wind speeds, wind power density, and gross capacity factors at multiple hub heights. Users can visualize wind resource maps, query coordinates for specific values, download GIS layers, and conduct preliminary site assessments without expensive on-site measurements. The tool assists policymakers, developers, and researchers in identifying promising regions for wind energy development, particularly in emerging markets.
