Microgrid Design Toolkit (MDT)
Sandia National Laboratories' Microgrid Design Toolkit (MDT) is a decision support tool that helps engineers design microgrids to meet user-defined objectives. It integrates load modeling, renewable and conventional generation options, energy storage, and control strategies to evaluate microgrid performance metrics such as reliability, cost, and resilience. MDT features a co-simulation environment that models both the electrical and thermal behavior of microgrid components and supports what if analyses of different configurations. It is used by utilities, military bases, and remote communities to design microgrids that optimize energy use, enhance resilience, and reduce emissions.
