The Distributed Energy Resource Cybersecurity Framework
The Distributed Energy Resource Cybersecurity Framework (DER-CF) is a guidance and assessment tool developed by NREL and industry partners to help organizations evaluate the cybersecurity posture of their distributed energy resource systems. The tool provides a structured questionnaire covering governance, risk management, system architecture, and operational practices and generates scores that highlight areas for improvement. The accompanying guide explains concepts and offers best practices for enhancing security across DER installations and aggregations. The DER-CF can be used by utilities, developers, and facility managers to identify vulnerabilities and prioritize mitigation measures.
