DC Microgrids Scoping Study ? Estimate of Technical and Economic Benefits

Publicly accessible License

This 2015 scoping study led by Los Alamos National Laboratory, with contributions from several other national labs, assesses the potential technical and economic benefits of direct-current (DC) microgrids. The report compares DC and AC architectures in terms of efficiency, cost, reliability, and compatibility with renewable and storage technologies. It identifies applications where DC microgrids offer advantages, such as data centers and naval facilities, and outlines research needs and market barriers. The study informs policymakers and engineers about opportunities for DC microgrid deployment.
