High-Fidelity Model of Stand-Alone Diesel Electric Generator With Hybrid Turbine-Governor Configuration for Microgrid Studies

Publicly accessible License

Develops a high-fidelity dynamic model of a stand-alone diesel electric generator to support microgrid control design as inverter-based resources provide fast frequency response alongside diesel primary response. The model includes a synchronous machine, DC4B excitation with a V/Hz limiter, and a modified IEEE GGOV1 engine-governor configuration tuned via surrogate optimization to emulate the load-step response of a 400 kVA Caterpillar C-15 genset. Compares performance against common governor configurations and demonstrates improved agreement with measured behavior for microgrid studies.
