Distribution Optimal Resilience Design Tool ?LPNORM?
The Distribution Optimal Resilience Design Tool, known as LPNORM, is a software module distributed through NRECA?s Open Modeling Framework that helps utilities plan resilience investments on distribution circuits. Users can import detailed circuit and pole models, define extreme?weather damage scenarios, and specify resilience criteria such as outage durations or customer impacts. LPNORM then formulates and solves an optimization problem that recommends cost?effective resilience measures, including targeted hardening, undergrounding, sectionalizing, and deployment of microgrids or other distributed resources. The accompanying final report documents model formulation, data needs, and example applications, making the tool a useful reference for co?ops and utilities designing resilience programs that explicitly consider both costs and resilience benefits at the distribution?system level.
